The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (GUR) has denied reports of an alleged conflict between the current head, Kirill Budanov, and his predecessor, Oleg Ivashchenko. The agency emphasized that these claims are nothing more than media fabrications.
According to Interfax-Ukraine, citing sources within the GUR, Budanov and Ivashchenko are engaged in an ongoing constructive dialogue, and rumors of a “power struggle” are unfounded.
“These statements about a ‘power struggle’ are nothing more than conspiracy theories. Key positions within the agency are held by experienced officers who have long been fighting for Ukraine,” the agency’s source noted.
Shared Values and Traditions
Ivashchenko and Budanov are generals who have dedicated their entire lives to serving in the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). They both value the traditions and values that have taken root within the agency. Each has his own vision for the agency’s development, but they collaborate effectively on a day-to-day basis.

“Of course, certain changes are possible, since every commander has the right to his own strategic vision. However, the dialogue continues, and everything is proceeding in a professional manner,” the source added.
Earlier, reports appeared in the media claiming that Ivashchenko was attempting to reduce the influence of his predecessor, Budanov, on the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR); however, the agency categorically denies this.
