Lukashenko made a surprise visit to China for talks with Xi Jinping

On June 29, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko made an unexpected visit to China, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This meeting took place against the backdrop of growing tensions in international relations.

In the morning, Lukashenko’s plane landed at Beijing’s Shoudu Airport, where an official meeting with the Chinese leader took place. “Sino-Belarusian relations have now reached a historic high,” Xi Jinping stated, to which Lukashenko responded by expressing gratitude for the high assessment of cooperation between Minsk and Beijing.

Lukashenko noted that he would discuss with Xi Jinping the global cooperation they had previously envisioned. This visit marked Lukashenko’s 17th trip to China, which took place following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine revealed details of Lukashenko’s meeting with Putin at a private residence in Valdai. On the eve of the talks, Lukashenko urged the Russian authorities not to drag Belarus into the war against Ukraine, although the Kremlin continues to seek new opportunities to open a second front.
