In Poland, a 63-year-old Ukrainian truck driver who was detained on the A4 highway while under the influence of alcohol was convicted under an expedited procedure. According to Glavkom, citing RMF 24, the incident occurred on July 21 after noon near Bochnia in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.
The truck, which was swerving erratically, caught the attention of another driver. He forced it to pull over to the emergency lane and called the police. The driver’s blood alcohol level was found to be 2.5 per mille, which exceeds the legal limit in Poland by 12.5 times. The legal limit is only 0.2 per mille.
The following day, the court heard the case under expedited proceedings. The driver was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for three years, and banned from driving for seven years.
Earlier, another Ukrainian illegally caught a giant catfish from Warsaw’s Lake Balaton. The fish, which was a local celebrity, was rescued and relocated to another lake in Warsaw. The 57-year-old man was deported from Poland and banned from entering the Schengen Area for five years.
