If you love shawarma but prefer homemade ingredients, this recipe will be a real find for you. It’s easy to make and doesn’t require any complicated ingredients: just well-marinated chicken, quick-pickled onions, a creamy yogurt sauce, and crispy potatoes.
The main ingredient is chicken
To make this dish, you’ll need 400–450 grams of boneless chicken thighs. It’s best to use thighs, as they make the dish juicier. Mix the meat with 2 tablespoons of thick Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and the juice of half a lemon.
- Add 1 teaspoon each of smoked and sweet paprika, 1 teaspoon of ground anise, half a teaspoon of coriander, and garlic powder.
- Add salt and black pepper to taste.
Mix the chicken well with the marinade and let it sit for 30 minutes. If you have time, let it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours for more flavor. Then, fry the chicken in a preheated skillet until cooked through. Cut the cooked meat into small pieces.
