On the night of April 23, two key facilities in Russia were attacked by unidentified drones. The attacks targeted the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery in the Samara Region and the Gorky Oil Terminal in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
According to local residents, explosions were heard and fires were visible in the morning. According to information provided to RBC-Ukraine citing OSINT sources, both facilities sustained significant damage as a result of the attacks.
Gorky Oil Transfer Station
The Gorky Oil Transfer Station is a major oil transfer facility within Transneft’s Upper Volga structure. It plays a key role in transporting oil through pipeline systems such as the Surgut–Gorky–Polotsk pipeline and operates one of the largest tank farms in Russia. Crude oil from this station is mainly supplied to domestic routes, including the Lukoil refinery in Kstovo.
Novokuybyshevsk Refinery
Local authorities confirmed an attack on the Novokuybyshevsk Refinery, one of the largest oil refineries in the Volga region, which is part of the PAO "NK "Rosneft" group. This refinery, opened in 1951, was one of the first to produce jet fuel and automotive oils. Its current capacity is 8–9 million tons of oil per year. The plant produces automotive, aviation, and marine fuels, oil components, bitumen, coke, and petrochemical products.
In addition, the Novokuybyshevsk Petrochemical Complex in the Samara region was also affected that night, where a fire broke out.
