The French Football Federation has officially confirmed the appointment of Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach of the national team. The contract with the renowned coach runs through 2030.
France finished the 2026 World Cup in fourth place, losing to England 4–6 in the third-place match.
Zidane has not been involved in coaching since 2021. Previously, he successfully managed Real Madrid, leading the team to three Champions League titles.
On social media, attention was drawn to how Portugal national team forward Cristiano Ronaldo endorsed a video accusing FIFA of corruption and of possibly helping Argentina reach the final.
As a reminder, Egypt’s head coach Hossam Hassan expressed dissatisfaction with the refereeing following the team’s 2–3 loss to Argentina in the Round of 16. Head referee Letexier disallowed Egypt’s second goal after reviewing the VAR and did not award a penalty in stoppage time, which sparked outrage from the Egyptian side.
Spain became the new world champion, defeating Argentina in extra time.
