Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appealed to European partners to provide Ukraine with interceptor missiles needed to defend against Russian ballistic threats. He emphasized that these missiles should not be left to gather dust in warehouses while Ukraine needs them to defend its territory. The president’s statement came after yet another massive Russian attack that resulted in deaths and injuries.
Zelenskyy stressed that Russian troops are using North Korean ballistic missiles that are destroying civilian infrastructure and threatening the lives of people in Europe. Against this backdrop, the president called on partners to take decisive action to strengthen the defense of Ukrainian airspace.
“When North Korean missiles are destroying infrastructure and threatening lives here in Europe, European interceptors shouldn’t just be sitting in warehouses,” Zelenskyy stressed.
He stressed that every new aid package for Ukraine’s air defense saves lives and protects infrastructure from Russian attacks. Recently, Russia has been carrying out massive attacks, which have affected 13 regions of Ukraine. Russian forces have used more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 aerial bombs, and 62 missiles, mostly ballistic missiles.
The president also spoke about the consequences of the nighttime and morning strikes on August 16. In Kyiv, the fires were extinguished, and emergency repairs have begun. Six people were injured in the capital and the Kyiv region as a result of the attacks.
