Zelenskyy Announced the New Chief of the General Staff

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the appointment of a new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Major General Ihor Skibyuk, who has extensive combat experience and previously served alongside the current Commander-in-Chief, will assume this position.

Who Will Lead the General Staff

Following a meeting attended by the president, a decision was made to change the leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Together with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapaty and Yevhen Khmara, it was determined that Major General Ihor Skibuk will become the new Chief of the General Staff. His experience in military operations will help ensure the army’s coordinated operations.

Biography of the New Chief of the General Staff

Ihor Anatoliyovych Skibyuk was born in 1977. He is a graduate of the Odesa Institute of Land Forces (1998) and the National Defense University of Ukraine (2011 and 2024). He rose through the ranks from commander of an airborne platoon to deputy brigade commander. In 2001–2002, he commanded a special platoon of the special company of the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent.
