Daria, who moved to Romania, shares her experience of emigration and offers advice to Ukrainians who are considering moving to that country.
Temporary Protection
One of the first important steps after moving to Romania is applying for temporary protection. This allows you to obtain:
- a residence permit and a CNP (the equivalent of a Ukrainian identification code);
- the right to work;
- access to healthcare;
- education for children.
“Once you receive temporary protection, you can rent an apartment and live in Romania for as long as this status is valid,” notes Daria. To apply, you need to contact UNHCR. In Bucharest, the process is fairly simple: all you need is a passport and a few hours to get the documents. Daria also recommends asking the center about free language courses, medical assistance, and job placement.
Finding Housing
Finding housing after moving can be challenging. Daria advises against relying solely on real estate agents and suggests searching on your own through specialized websites, Facebook, and Telegram groups. It’s important to contact companies via WhatsApp to clarify details and arrange viewings.
