On the night of August 15–16, the Ukrainian Navy struck the location of a Russian “Bastion” missile system in the temporarily occupied Crimea. This was reported by “Glavkom,” citing information from the Ukrainian Navy.
Ukrainian forces struck the launch positions and deployment site of this system. According to the Navy, Russian troops suffered significant losses in equipment and personnel. The final consequences of the strike are still being assessed.
It should be noted that the “Bastion” coastal missile system is a scarce and expensive weapon that the occupiers use to attack southern and other regions of Ukraine, firing supersonic “Onyx” missiles and hypersonic “Zircon” missiles.
That same night, Russia used “Onyx” missiles during a combined attack on Ukraine and also launched “Iskander-M” ballistic missiles, S-400s, KN-23, and X-59/69 guided air-launched missiles. The ballistic missiles were launched from the Kursk, Bryansk, and Voronezh regions, while the X-59/69 missiles were launched from the airspace over the occupied Kherson region and the Belgorod region.
Earlier, on August 12, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the control tower at the “Saki” military airfield near Novofedorivka in the temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as a facility used by Russian forces to control drones.
