Today, Ukraine commemorates the Day of the Infantry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is celebrated annually on May 6. This holiday was established on April 19, 2019, at the initiative of then-President Petro Poroshenko to honor the courage and heroism of soldiers in the mechanized, motorized infantry, and mountain assault units and subunits of the Ground Forces who defend Ukraine’s freedom and territorial integrity.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrskyi congratulated the infantrymen on their professional holiday, emphasizing that they are the line between good and evil. On his Facebook page, he noted that Ukrainian infantrymen are the shield of all of Europe, halting the advance of Russian aggression.
Syrskyi emphasized that Ukrainian soldiers continue to repel numerous attacks on the front lines. He stressed the need to equip the infantry with the latest technologies, particularly drones, to enhance the effectiveness of their operations. The development of innovation within the Armed Forces is one of his personal priorities.
The Commander-in-Chief frequently visits the front lines, where he speaks with infantrymen carrying out combat missions under the most difficult conditions. He expressed his gratitude for their contribution to the defense of the country.
