Ukrainian firefighters performed a heroic act by rescuing a roe deer while fighting a large forest fire in France. This was reported by “Glavkom,” citing the State Emergency Service.
“Amid the scorched earth, the roe deer was still trying to flee, but its burned legs would no longer obey it. Firefighters carefully picked up the animal, gave it water, examined it, and calmed it down,” the report states.
The rescuers then took the fawn to the nearest village, where volunteers were already waiting for it.
“The fawn was given a chance at life thanks to the rescuers. And perhaps someday it will run again through that same forest, which is sure to recover. After all, the true strength of rescuers lies not only in fighting fires, but also in their ability to help those who cannot save themselves,” the statement adds.
As a reminder, a combined detachment of Ukrainian rescue workers arrived in the French department of Gironde and began surveying the hotspots of a major wildfire. The fire in Gironde has been burning for over a week and is one of the largest in modern French history.
According to authorities, the fire has destroyed at least 240 homes, and 75 firefighters have been injured while battling the blaze. Due to the threat to populated areas, between 220,000 and over 360,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes.
