News of his death spread after his wife, Yevgeniya Kalugina, posted a message on Facebook. She wrote: “My husband has died.” This sad news was also confirmed by the deceased’s comrade, Sergey Gnezdilov, who noted that Yukov sustained a fatal wound while exhuming bodies on the front lines.
The Legacy of Alexei Yukov
For over 25 years, Alexei Yukov was involved in the search for and repatriation of the remains of the fallen. His work began with the search for victims of World War I and World War II. In 2013, he founded a search team as part of the Association of Military-Historical Heritage Researchers.
