The death toll from the Russian missile strike on the town of Merefa in the Kharkiv region has risen to five, while the number of injured has reached 19.
This information was reported on Telegram by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, according to Ukrinform.
Details of the incident
According to the investigation, on May 4 at approximately 9:35 a.m., Russian forces launched a missile strike on the town of Merefa in the Kharkiv region. The missile struck the road surface, killing three women and two men. Four of them died at the scene, and another woman died later in the hospital from her injuries.
Another 19 people were injured or suffered acute stress reactions. According to Oleg Synyegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, the victims included men aged 50 and 63 and women aged 74, 41, and 52.
Condition of the victims and consequences
Four victims were hospitalized in critical condition. Another 12 people sustained moderate injuries, while the rest of the victims experienced acute stress reactions and continue to seek medical care.
The missile strike damaged residential buildings, utility buildings, stores, a restaurant, a car repair shop, and vehicles.
According to preliminary data from law enforcement, an Iskander ballistic missile was used in the attack. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the war crime that resulted in the loss of life (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
As a reminder, on the morning of May 4, Russia launched a missile strike on a car repair shop in Merefa; at that time, four deaths and 16 injuries were reported.
