The SBU’s Counterintelligence Directorate detained an FSB agent who was gathering information about the Defense Forces’ fortifications along the Poltava–Kharkiv highway while coordinating attacks on the Kharkiv region. This was reported by “Glavkom,” citing the SBU.
According to the investigation, the agent turned out to be an employee of a well-known retail chain in Poltava. Carrying out assignments for the Russian intelligence service, he would take buses to the Kharkiv region in his free time. There, he gathered data on the locations of Ukrainian military units, their movement routes, and the consequences of attacks. He photographed the information he gathered, marked the coordinates on Google Maps, and forwarded it to his FSB handler, consistently deleting correspondence to maintain secrecy.
The SBU determined that the Russians planned to use this intelligence for new missile and bomb strikes on the region. The suspect was detained in Poltava. During a search, his smartphone and computer equipment containing evidence of collaboration with the enemy were seized.
Investigators charged him under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason committed during wartime. He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Additionally, a 61-year-old woman from the Khmelnytskyi district was sentenced to 15 years in prison for treason and planning a terrorist attack.
