Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia is no longer conducting the so-called “special military operation” against Ukraine. According to “Glavkom,” he made this statement in an interview with Die Weltwoche.
Change in the Status of the Conflict
“This is no longer an operation. It is a full-scale war,” Peskov emphasized. According to him, to end the war, Ukraine must withdraw its troops from regions that are now part of Russia and officially recognize them as Russian.
“The war would end the very next day,” Vladimir Putin’s press secretary assured.
The Threat of Nuclear Weapons
Peskov also stated that Russia “will never start World War III.” However, he believes that European politicians have “the craziest ideas” and threatened to use nuclear weapons in the event of a threat to the existence of the Russian state.
As a reminder, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, explained that Peskov’s statements are a deliberate effort to prepare Russians for mobilization. It is worth noting that Dmitry Peskov unexpectedly changed his rhetoric regarding the hostilities in Ukraine, referring to them as a war rather than a “special military operation.”
