In the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, construction is actively underway on a unique tower that will become the world’s first skyscraper taller than one kilometer. So far, 106 of the 160 planned floors have been completed, and the project is scheduled for completion in 2028. This information comes from Glavkom, citing Geek Week.
Construction of the Jeddah Tower began back in 2013, but due to numerous delays, its completion was in doubt. A breakthrough in the project occurred in 2025, when work resumed in full, and since then, the skyscraper has been growing steadily.
Record-Breaking Observation Deck
Once completed, the Jeddah Tower will not only be the tallest building in the world but will also feature the highest observation deck, located at an altitude of over 640 meters, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Red Sea.
Modern Technology and Design
The project includes 59 elevators and approximately 530,000 square meters of usable space. The building will be equipped with state-of-the-art air conditioning systems and energy-efficient facades adapted to the region’s climate.
One of the project’s architects is Adrian Smith, who also contributed to the design of the Burj Khalifa—currently the world’s tallest building at 828 meters, located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Jeddah Tower is part of the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030 program, aimed at diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on oil. The skyscraper will become a new tourist attraction, stimulating the region’s economic development.
