Restoration of Lukianivka market received support from the community

A petition calling for the urgent restoration of the Lukyanivsky Market, which sustained significant damage from Russian shelling on May 24, 2026, has gathered enough signatures to be considered by the Kyiv authorities. This was reported on the Kyiv City Council’s official website, according to Glavkom.

The author of the petition emphasizes that this historic market is not merely a commercial facility, but an important element of the capital’s cultural and social life.

The petition’s main demands are:

  • quickly assess the damage and publish a plan for the market’s restoration;
  • to secure funding from the city budget and international sources;
  • to support entrepreneurs and workers who have lost their jobs;
  • preserve the market’s historical and social role by preventing its replacement with other commercial projects;
  • begin restoration work as soon as possible.

It is also known that the capital’s shopping and entertainment centers will provide temporary spaces for entrepreneurs from the destroyed Lukyanivka market. Entrepreneurs affected by the shelling near the Lukyanivska metro station (specifically at the Kvadrat shopping and entertainment center and the market) will be given new opportunities to work.

As a reminder, during the massive attack on Kyiv on the night of May 24, Russian occupiers struck the Shevchenkivskyi district, seriously damaging Lukyanivka. The metro entrance, the iconic McDonald’s, the local market, and a large shopping center were damaged. A Glavkom correspondent was at the scene and documented how the district is recovering after yet another terrorist attack.
