Despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that negotiations with Iran have been suspended, the exchange of information between the two countries continues. According to ABC News, citing sources in the White House, the U.S. administration is holding technical consultations with Tehran regarding a possible nuclear deal, reports Glavkom.
According to the source, diplomatic efforts are continuing even after Trump’s statements at the NATO summit in Ankara and the mutual attacks between the two countries. Officials in Washington emphasize that the main goal remains unchanged—to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
A White House insider noted that the U.S. continues to seek a diplomatic solution, and technical negotiations have not ceased.
“The U.S. remains focused on resolving the issue, and technical talks are ongoing. Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons,” the source told ABC News.
Earlier, Donald Trump announced that the United States would no longer abide by the agreements with Iran and was suspending negotiations. At the NATO summit in Ankara, the U.S. president accused Tehran of attempting to assassinate him and stated that Washington no longer sees any possibility for continuing diplomatic dialogue.
Meanwhile, the White House is preparing for a possible multi-day or even multi-week standoff with Iran near the Strait of Hormuz. According to Axios, Iranian attacks on commercial shipping and internal disputes within the Iranian leadership were among the reasons for the breakdown of the framework agreement.
U.S. officials note that the duration of a potential conflict will depend on Iran’s future actions.
