Ukraine’s men’s and women’s U23 3×3 basketball teams kicked off their participation in this season’s Nations League, competing in Riga. Both teams performed admirably, demonstrating tenacity and skill on the court.
Men’s Team Results
The men’s team, consisting of Lev Koshevatsky, Yaroslav Karpyuk, Maksym Zaitsev, and Oleksandr Dyupin—who was replaced by Artem Smytiukh on the second day—finished fourth in the first and third rounds. On the second leg, they finished last. Overall, under the guidance of Volodymyr Kholopov, the team scored 165 points and is in fifth place, trailing Switzerland by 10 points and leading Romania by the same margin. The conference leaders, Serbia and Latvia, are competing for the title with 270 and 260 points, respectively.
Successes of the Women’s National Team
The women’s team, consisting of Vira Hrymalyuk, Bohdana Lapkhan, Karina Panchuk, and Tetiana Tkachenko, competed without any substitutions. They finished fifth in the first stage, then moved into the top three: third in the second stage and second in the third, coming within a hair’s breadth of victory. Overall, Dmitry Nevolin’s team scored 200 points, placing third, 20 points behind Poland. Latvia, which won all three legs, leads with 300 points.
The final three rounds for our U23 national teams will take place on July 24–26 in Ventspils, Lithuania.
