How Kyiv will celebrate City Day under martial law in 2026

For the fifth consecutive year, Kyiv is celebrating City Day under martial law. Due to security risks, the city administration has decided not to hold citywide events. Residents are asked to follow safety guidelines, monitor air raid sirens, and take shelter when necessary. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration’s press service, according to information from “Glavkom.”

Cultural events for city residents

Despite the restrictions, the capital’s cultural life continues. Cultural, educational, and sports institutions have prepared many themed events. In particular, an exhibition of works by students and faculty of the Universum College titled “The Unbreakable City” is taking place at the Zoloti Vorota metro station.

Traditional holiday events

The “Kyiv” Art Award will be presented on Kyiv Day. Over the weekend, visitors can enjoy a folk art fair at the Ivan Honchar Museum, as well as the 20th International Festival and Competition of Choral Art “Song Over the Dnipro.”

An art gallery will be set up in Holosiivskyi Park, where the “Kyiv – The Unbreakable Capital!” event will take place, featuring master classes. On Andriivskyi Uzviz, the “Uzviz of Unity” event will bring together different regions of Ukraine through traditional crafts and performances by artists.

Open-air concerts will enhance the festive atmosphere. In particular, carillon music will ring out from the bell tower of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery, and the city’s parks will invite Kyiv residents and visitors to enjoy musical performances.
