In the Poltava region, a forester has come under suspicion in connection with the felling of 150 oak trees, valued at over 8.4 million hryvnias.
Information about the incident appeared on the official website of the Poltava Regional Police, according to Ukrinform.
Investigation into illegal logging
Law enforcement officers documented illegal logging on the territory of the “Pidvarivskyi” botanical reserve of local significance. According to the investigation, a forest supervisor from one of the local forestry offices failed to ensure proper security, which allowed illegal activities to take place on the territory of the nature conservation reserve.
Expert assessment confirms damages
A comprehensive expert assessment confirmed that the environmental damage exceeds 8.4 million hryvnias. The forester was charged under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official negligence resulting in serious consequences), which carries a sentence of up to five years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, Ukrinform reported on a similar case in the Chernivtsi region, where nearly 300 trees were illegally cut down, causing damages of over 5.4 million hryvnias.
