The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is not commenting on the statements made by Russian Sports Minister and President of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev, who supports the war. This was reported by “Glavkom.”
Last week, Degtyarev took part in the opening of track and field competitions for people with disabilities among Russian military personnel. “Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed us to ensure that all veterans of the special military operation have the opportunity for sports rehabilitation and integration into civilian life,” Degtyarev said.
“Glavkom” reached out to the IOC for comment on these remarks but did not receive a response. The IOC Executive Board had previously recommended lifting restrictions on Russian athletes’ participation in international competitions. This decision was made after the Russian Olympic Committee confirmed that it was not conducting any activities in territories under the jurisdiction of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
