European Gymnastics Postpones Decision on Russian Symbols at Competitions

European Gymnastics has decided to postpone an extraordinary general assembly at which the use of Russian national symbols at competitions was to be discussed. This information was reported by “Glavkom,” citing the Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation.

The General Assembly meeting was scheduled for June 29. Earlier, it was reported that 11 national federations had appealed to European Gymnastics to ban the use of the Russian flag and national anthem at European competitions.

On May 24, the Executive Committee of European Gymnastics lifted sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes. Six days earlier, the International Gymnastics Federation had also lifted restrictions on Russian athletes, allowing them to compete under their own flag and national anthem.

A Ukrainian Gymnast’s Plans

In an exclusive interview with Glavkom, Ukrainian gymnast Nazar Chepurnyi shared his goals for this year’s European and World Championships. “The main events for me this year are the European and World Championships. I’ve set ambitious goals for myself—to make it onto the podium and win in my specialty, the vault. My competitors are tough, but I’m preparing and I’ll give it my all,” Chepurnyi said.

The 2026 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships will take place in Zagreb, Croatia, at Arena Zagreb from August 19 to 23. For the first time in the tournament’s history, a prize fund of 150,000 euros will be awarded.
