On Sunday, May 3, an unidentified drone violated Finnish airspace near the border with Russia. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the press service of the Finnish Ministry of Defense.
The incident occurred over the municipality of Virolahhti, which borders Russia’s Leningrad Oblast. The type and origin of the drone have not yet been determined, but it has already left Finnish airspace. The Finnish Border Guard is investigating the incident and promises to provide more information later.
Meanwhile, according to Yle, the Finnish Armed Forces announced a temporary restriction of the aviation zone in the maritime area near the ports of Kotka and Hamina from 1:57 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. The purpose of this restriction was to enhance situational awareness and ensure safe control of any potential "stray" drones.
As a reminder, on the morning of May 3, residents of several regions in Latvia and Estonia were warned of a potential drone threat in connection with Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
