On the night of June 25, Ukrainian drones carried out a massive attack across nearly 20 Russian regions, including border regions and the Moscow region. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Russian Ministry of Defense’s Official Position
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, its air defense systems allegedly intercepted and destroyed 323 Ukrainian drones overnight. The attack affected the following regions:
- Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, and Volgograd regions
- Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, and Orenburg regions
- Penza, Smolensk, and Tula regions
- the Moscow region and the Krasnodar Krai
- Temporarily occupied Crimea
In addition, Russia claimed to have allegedly shot down drones over the Azov and Black Seas. The Russians traditionally do not disclose full information about the consequences of the attacks.
Consequences of the attacks
It is known that explosions were heard overnight in the Orenburg region. A local gas processing plant—one of the largest in Russia—may have been hit. Local authorities confirmed the drone attack. Due to the threat posed by UAVs, the region imposed the “Kovor” airspace restriction regime and temporarily suspended operations at the airports in Orenburg, Orsk, and Yasnoye.
The temporarily occupied Crimea also came under a massive attack. In addition to strikes on Sevastopol’s energy infrastructure, explosions and large-scale fires were reported at military facilities in Bakhchisaray and Kerch.
