Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the country is awaiting a response from the countries that were supposed to contact Russia regarding the proposal for a reciprocal ceasefire in the Black Sea. This information was announced on September 25.
Zelenskyy explained that so far, no response has been received from these countries, which were supposed to have contacted the Russian side. He emphasized the importance of these negotiations for resolving the issue of the Black Sea blockade.
Speaking at the Sixth Summit of the International Crimea Platform in New York, the president noted that Egypt, India, and Turkey have offered their own proposals to overcome the blockade, and Ukraine is ready to agree to these proposals.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is ready to fulfill its obligations to ensure safe navigation and food security in the region, provided that Russia also takes concrete steps to de-escalate the situation.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had previously announced that Turkey was stepping up its diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement on the situation in the Black Sea, holding talks with various parties to coordinate positions.
Egypt, India, and Turkey are key importers of Ukrainian and Russian grain, the supply of which has faced serious difficulties due to the blockade since July. The blockade in the Black Sea could affect global food security, according to Bloomberg.
