Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the successes of the defense forces in the Lyman area, where a Ukrainian counteroffensive is underway. According to him, the positive results of the operation are already evident, although details will be announced only after the operation is completed.
Zelenskyy was answering questions from journalists during a press conference, where he was asked about the situation in Lyman and the Ukrainian military’s next strategic objectives. He noted that it is important to complete the current tasks before discussing further steps.
The Ukrainian forces’ offensive began on August 7, following reports from the Azov unit that a Russian offensive near Druzhkivka had been repelled. The Ukrainian military successfully completed two phases of the “Vivaldi” offensive operation.
According to reports, in the north of Donetsk Oblast, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to liberate 125 square kilometers of territory. The first phase of the operation led to the liberation of the settlements of Novoselivka, Oleksandrivka, Yarova, the outskirts of Korovyi Yar, and Seredne.
During the second phase, Ukrainian forces liberated Drobysheve, Derylove, and Shandryholove. Offensive operations are continuing in the Liman direction, where the defense forces are concentrating their efforts.
