For the first time, the U.S. president has effectively refuted recent media reports claiming that he allegedly told Republican Party donors in private that he supports Vice President J.D. Vance as a candidate in the 2028 presidential election.
Journalists asked the White House chief whether he had indeed said anything of the sort to his associates. The U.S. leader replied unequivocally: “No.”
“I heard about this a while back. I think he (Vance—Ed.) is great, but it’s too early to talk about that,” Trump emphasized.
At the same time, many of the U.S. president’s advisers and allies are skeptical of these reports. They explained that the president often says different things to different people, so they aren’t sure he has actually already chosen Vance as his successor.
Incidentally, the U.S. vice president recently joked about the talk surrounding the 2028 election. He humorously suggested that Trump might draw on his experience as host of the show “The Apprentice” and hold a sort of public competition before deciding whom to endorse.
It’s worth noting that the U.S. leader has previously stated on multiple occasions that he is considering J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio among his potential successors.
