U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed support for the initiative for an energy ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow. The statement was made against the backdrop of Ukraine’s recent attacks on ships involved in oil shipments from the U.S.
Rubio did not provide detailed information, but U.S. media had previously reported on the U.S. government’s dissatisfaction with the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strikes on facilities belonging to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. The Secretary of State noted that these attacks were most likely not intentional but require a resolution.
Tomorrow, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Rubio may meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, although the U.S. side has not yet confirmed this meeting.
At the same time, the planned meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump could be crucial for discussing an energy truce. According to reports, Trump may push for an agreement with Russia.
Zelenskyy notes that any agreement must be long-term and not dependent on the results of the State Duma elections. Experts emphasize that an energy truce will be beneficial for Ukraine only if it is based on reciprocity and proper oversight.
