Ukraine is actively building a strong line of defense along its northern border, stretching from the Kyiv Reservoir to Sumy. This is being done to prevent a possible new offensive by Russia.
Preparations for defense in the north
According to RBC-Ukraine, citing Ukrinform, this was reported by Brigadier General Vasyl Syrotenko, Chief of the Engineering Troops of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Sumy: An Example of Rapid Preparation
According to General Syrotenko, Sumy managed to prepare several lines of defense in a short time. This defense is so robust that it is visible even from space.
"In a short period, we managed to create a truly echeloned and robust defense. This is noteworthy, and it is visible; you can even observe its construction from space," he emphasized.
The Purpose and Significance of the Defense Line
The line of defense, stretching from the Kyiv Reservoir to Sumy, is not a local fortification but a large-scale project requiring significant resources. The main goal is to ensure that Russia:
- cannot launch a surprise attack from this direction;
- cannot create a “buffer zone”;
- cannot push Ukrainian forces back from the state border.
