This issue was discussed at a meeting at the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine with representatives of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. The Ukrainian side was represented by Deputy Minister of Economy and Environment Denys Bashlyk, while the Norwegian side was represented by Kristin Enstad, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Kingdom of Norway in Ukraine.
Challenges for the Agricultural Sector
“This year, port infrastructure has been hit by more than 180 attacks, and the three main ports, through which more than 90% of Ukraine’s agricultural exports passed, are currently not operational. Under these conditions, as early as November, we may face a critical shortage of grain storage capacity. Therefore, Ukraine needs swift solutions and support from its partners to preserve the harvest and ensure the continuity of agricultural exports,” noted Denys Bashlyk.
Solutions and Cooperation
During the meeting, the parties discussed practical steps to strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector during the war. In particular, they discussed providing agricultural producers with grain silos for temporary storage of the harvest, supporting humanitarian demining of agricultural land, developing logistics infrastructure, and supplying agricultural machinery.
In addition, they discussed expanding cooperation in the areas of value-added processing of agricultural products, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable production, and attracting investment.
The Ukrainian side also expressed gratitude to the government and people of Norway for their continued support of Ukraine and agreed with its partners to further expand cooperation to ensure the stability of agricultural exports.
