A memorial Divine Liturgy, led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy, has concluded at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral. Hundreds of believers gathered to honor the memory of the architect of autocephaly.
Today marks the end of the first stage of the nationwide farewell to Patriarch Filaret, who passed away after a long illness.
Final Resting Place at St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral
Patriarch Filaret, who served at St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral for half a century, will find his eternal rest there. As is known, he left a spiritual testament in which he expressed his vision for the future of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and specified the location of his burial.
Filaret dedicated his entire life to building an independent Ukrainian Orthodox Church, defending its independence from Moscow and believing in the full unification of Ukrainian Orthodoxy.
