U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his disagreement with a Senate resolution calling for an end to military action against Iran.
According to the BBC, as reported by Ukrinform, the U.S. president noted that this move is “ill-timed and senseless.”
“I had almost forced Iran to capitulate when the U.S. Senate organized an untimely and illogical vote on the War Powers Act. The senators have only made my job more difficult, but I will see this through to the end, because I always see my work through to the end,” Trump stated on Truth Social.
Trump is expected to meet with Republican senators on Wednesday following Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit to Switzerland, where talks were held with Iran regarding its nuclear ambitions.
One of the Republican senators reported that Trump is unhappy that some Republicans are criticizing the agreement he reached with Iran.
According to Ukrinform, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution on Tuesday calling on President Trump to halt military action against Iran. Earlier this month, the House of Representatives passed a similar resolution. This is the first time both chambers of Congress have passed a resolution calling on the president to withdraw U.S. troops from a combat zone in accordance with the War Powers Act of 1973.
The resolution was supported by all but one Democratic senator, as well as four Republicans. Two other Republicans did not participate in the vote.
