In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a female officer of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on suspicion of receiving $14,000 in illicit benefits. In exchange for this money, she promised to secure a Group III disability classification for a servicemember, which would have allowed him to be discharged from the military.
Details of the incident
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the officer initially offered to transfer the servicemember from a combat unit to a support unit for a fee ranging from $7,000 to $10,000. However, due to difficulties with the transfer, she proposed an alternative—securing a disability designation.
The suspect’s plan
According to investigators, the officer promised to influence officials at the National Military Medical Clinical Center to secure a disability determination. To this end, she obtained the soldier’s personal and military documents, as well as his medical records.
On August 6, during a meeting in Kyiv, the officer received the agreed-upon amount. Law enforcement officers detained her immediately after the funds were handed over.
The suspect is charged with receiving an unlawful benefit in exchange for influencing the decisions of officials performing state functions.
