The Ukrainian men’s national volleyball team, which failed to advance to the semifinals of the Nations League in July, suffered a defeat in the round of 16 of the 2026 European Championship. Fans had hoped for a victory, but Raul Lozano’s team lost to Romania 0–3 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
It should be noted that the match ended with the following set scores: 22–25, 21–25, 28–30. This came as a surprise, as the Ukrainian team was considered the favorite going into the match.
In the group stage, Ukraine finished second in Group B with four wins out of five matches, while Romania finished third with three wins.
Thus, the Ukrainian national team concluded its run in the tournament, repeating its most recent result—an elimination from the European Championship in the round of 16—which has happened for the second time in the past five years.
The Ukrainian volleyball team’s best achievements remain two appearances in the quarterfinals of the European Championship, which this year is being held in Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, and Finland.
