On Monday, September 21, Russian troops carried out drone attacks on gas stations along the M-06 Kyiv-Chop highway near Zvyagel in Zhytomyr Oblast, according to Vitaliy Bunechko, head of the Zhytomyr Oblast Military Administration.
The first attack took place in the suburbs of Zviahel, where cleanup efforts are underway, and information regarding casualties and the extent of the damage is still being verified. The second strike targeted a WOG gas station in the Zvyagel district; however, there is currently no information on casualties or injuries from that location.
For safety reasons, the regional governor warned of the threat of further strikes and urged owners and visitors of gas stations to follow safety protocols during air raid alerts, specifically to remain in safe locations and not to leave their vehicles on the gas station premises.
This is not the first time Russian forces have attacked gas stations in the Zhytomyr region; previously, gas stations in the Rivne region were also targeted. In Kyiv, 16 gas stations were damaged or destroyed as a result of Russian attacks over the past week.
The company “Ukrnafta” reported that, due to frequent attacks on its gas stations, it will suspend operations whenever an air raid alert of any level is declared.
