The Importance of the VNDIR-Progress Plant to the Russian Defense Industry

On June 10, the VNDIR-Progress facility in Cheboksary came under attack; the facility manufactures components for the "Shahid," "Kalibr," and "Iskander" missiles. According to preliminary data, the strike was carried out using an FP-5 “Flamingo” missile. This enterprise plays a key role in Russia’s military-industrial complex.

The Attack on Cheboksary

On the morning of June 10, a series of explosions rocked Cheboksary, accompanied by thick smoke over the industrial district. Monitoring sources report that the VNDIR-Progress factory was the target. It is believed that FP-5 “Flamingo” missiles were used.

Chuvashia Governor Oleg Nikolaev confirmed the attack, noting that unidentified missiles were used. An assessment of infrastructure damage is underway.

The plant’s significance for Russia

JSC “All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Relay Engineering” (VNIIR-Progress) is a key component of the Russian defense industry. The company brings together several electrical engineering and machine-building enterprises located in Cheboksary, Chuvashia, Russia.

The enterprise manufactures “Kometa” adaptive antennas to protect “Shahed” strike drones, as well as satellite signal receivers for “Kalibr” and “Iskander” missiles.

History of attacks on “VNIIR-Progress”

The company has been attacked on multiple occasions, notably on the night of June 9, 2025, when a fire broke out following an attack by Ukrainian drones, forcing production to be suspended. Similar attacks took place in July, November, and December 2025, as well as on February 18, 2026.
