Following a decisive victory over the U.S. national team in the Round of 16 of the World Cup, the Belgian national team’s official social media accounts posted an original message. This was reported by “Glavkom.”
“Cancel this,” read the caption on a photo featuring striker Romelu Lukaku, who scored the fourth goal against their opponents.
Before the match, the U.S. national team unexpectedly received support from FIFA, which temporarily lifted the suspension of their top scorer, Folarin Balogun. This decision drew criticism of FIFA, especially after it became known that U.S. President Donald Trump had personally spoken with FIFA President Gianni Infantino about the situation.
The World Cup is being held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, where 48 teams are competing for the first time. The tournament will conclude on July 19.
Playoff Matches
The first quarterfinal match of the 2026 World Cup will take place on July 9 at 11:00 p.m. Kyiv time, when the national teams of France and Morocco face off on the field.
Morocco defeated Canada in the playoff, scoring two goals. In the second half, Hakimi passed to Unai, who fired a precise shot into the corner of the net. Trailing 0–1, Canada was unable to create any real threats, and the Moroccans capitalized on their uncertainty, capping off a counterattack with another precise strike by Unai.
France also defeated Paraguay in a tense Round of 16 match.
