A widespread blooming of forsythia has begun in Kyiv’s parks and squares, and the first leaves are appearing on the willow trees. This news was reported by a Glavkom correspondent.
Observations show that this year’s active growth period began later than last year. For comparison, in 2025, the forsythia bloomed as early as March 24. The delay may be linked to the specific nature of the meteorological winter, which, although it lasted only 67 days (from December 24 to February 28), was quite cold and snowy.
Forsythia: A Symbol of Spring
Forsythia is an ornamental shrub of the olive family that is covered with bright yellow flowers even before the leaves appear. In recent years, this shrub has been actively planted by municipal workers and city residents as a symbol of spring. Its blooming can be observed in all districts of Kyiv and will last about 20 days.
Weeping willow: the first signs of spring
Along with forsythia, weeping willows begin to bloom. This tree is one of the first to respond to a steady rise in the average daily temperature above 0°C, which has been recorded in Kyiv since March 1.
The weeping or Babylonian willow is an extremely attractive tree, but its branches are quite fragile and can break during strong winds.
Experts note that the start of forsythia blooming and the appearance of leaves on willows indicate active sap flow in the plants. During this period, it is not recommended to prune grapevines and hydrangeas, as this can lead to the loss of nutrients and damage to the plants.
