South Korean President Orders Investigation into National Team’s Performance at the World Cup

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has called for an investigation into the national team’s performance at the World Cup. According to posts on the president’s social media accounts, this issue requires attention.

The South Korean national team finished third in Group A, ending its run in the tournament. The team defeated the Czech Republic but lost to Mexico and South Africa. Head coach Hong Myung-bo has already resigned, stating that he takes full responsibility for the failure.

“As a former honorary president of a soccer club, I was surprised and even shocked by these results. This has once again confirmed that personnel decisions are crucial. When people are appointed to leadership positions based on ‘who’s in the inner circle’ rather than on ability, the results will always be predictably poor. Corporate interests must not take precedence over public interests,” wrote Lee Jae-myung.

He emphasized that the failure at the World Cup was the result of organizational and personnel mistakes.

“Since significant resources and government support are involved in participating in the World Cup, I call on the Ministry of Sports to conduct a thorough analysis of the situation, identify the causes, and develop measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future. I regret that I have failed to meet the public’s expectations, and I will do everything possible to swiftly implement reforms in the field of sports management,” the president noted in his address.
