The finalists of the prestigious ATP 1000 tournament in Montreal have been determined. Two American tennis players will compete for the top prize: defending champion Ben Shelton and first-time finalist Brandon Nakashima.
A historic moment for American tennis
This final will be the first all-American final at a Masters 1000 tournament in the last 23 years. The last time this happened was in Cincinnati in 2003, when Andy Roddick defeated Mardy Fish. As for Montreal, Americans haven’t faced each other in the final since 1995, when Andre Agassi defeated Pete Sampras. This is only the 15th all-American final in the history of the ATP 1000 series since the format was established in 1990.

Path to the Final and Personal Achievements
25-year-old Brandon Nakashima caused a local sensation by defeating 19-year-old Spaniard Rafael Hodar in the semifinals. For Nakashima, this will be his first career final at an ATP 1000 tournament and only his fifth at the ATP Tour level (he won his only title in 2022 in San Diego). On the other hand, Ben Shelton is advancing to the final of the Canadian Masters for the second consecutive time, where he will defend his title.
