The extreme heat has caused damage to roads in the Zhytomyr region, particularly on the Kyiv-Kovel international highway, known as the “Varshavka.” Drivers have been warned about a dangerous “bump” on this stretch of road.
The Zhytomyr Oblast Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service reported on Facebook that the road surface cannot withstand the high temperatures. Concrete slabs are warping, shifting, and buckling upward, posing a danger to drivers.
Repair Work
The agency reports that the condition of the road surface is constantly monitored, and any damage found is promptly repaired by contractors. However, as long as the heat wave continues, the threat to motorists remains.
Weather Forecast
Forecasters predict that the highest temperatures are expected on July 1 and 2, when air temperatures in the southern and western regions of Ukraine will reach +36…+38 degrees. In addition, due to the heatwave in Ukraine, restrictions on heavy vehicle traffic are in effect to preserve the road surface.
