The Russian government has imposed a temporary ban on the export of jet fuel, which will be in effect from June 1 to November 30, 2026. This decision was made to stabilize the domestic fuel market, according to Glavkom, citing Russian media reports.
The ban applies to jet fuel, including that purchased through exchange trading. At the same time, the restrictions do not apply to fuel already on board aircraft or in their technical tanks, nor to shipments of jet fuel cleared by customs before the decision took effect. Exceptions are provided for deliveries under intergovernmental agreements.
Previously, Russian authorities had considered banning the export of diesel and aviation fuel due to a decline in domestic production caused by regular Ukrainian attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure.
This is not the first restriction on the Russian fuel market. In January, the government banned the export of gasoline and diesel fuel until July 2026, citing the need to secure the domestic market.
According to Bloomberg, the decline in refining capacity is linked to intensified strikes by Ukrainian drones on key refineries and oil pipelines. The analytical firm OilX reported that in April, the average daily oil refining volume in Russia fell to 4.69 million barrels, the lowest figure in the past 16 years. The situation is complicated by the destruction of infrastructure on the eve of the peak consumption season.
