Starting September 1, 2026, Karazin Kharkiv National University plans to partially resume in-person classes for students in all departments.
Classroom instruction
Currently, practical and laboratory classes are being held in person for future medical students, physicists, chemists, and students in other natural science departments.
Blended learning system
A full transition to traditional in-person classes is not yet possible, as many students are located outside the Kharkiv region or abroad.
Safe spaces
The university is developing safe underground facilities due to its proximity to the front lines.
According to the rector, the return to in-person learning will be gradual and only if it is safe for students and faculty. “Any decision regarding in-person classes is made only when we are confident in the safety of our students and staff,” Kaganovska emphasized.
Current situation
The rector reported that some students are already participating in practical training at the university. Specifically, the following groups are attending in-person classes:
- students in the natural sciences;
- medical students;
- physics students;
- chemists.
They are conducting laboratory and practical work directly at the university.
According to Kaganovska, the university conducted a survey among students before returning to in-person classes. About 80% of those located in Kharkiv and the surrounding region supported in-person learning provided that adequate safety measures were in place.
