Pakistan resumes hostilities against Afghanistan

Pakistan has resumed military operations in Afghanistan, resulting in numerous casualties and bringing an end to the brief ceasefire declared in honor of Eid. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Bloomberg.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi stated at a briefing in Islamabad that operations will continue until the set objectives are achieved. Pakistan is calling on the Taliban government to stop the activities of militants who are organizing attacks from Afghan territory.

Reasons for the escalation of the conflict

The fighting, which began about a month ago, was temporarily suspended from March 19 to 24 at the request of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. This pause followed Pakistan’s airstrikes on Kabul, which killed 400 people. This incident sparked international concern and calls for a ceasefire. Pakistan, however, denies these allegations, claiming that the target was a militant base.

Resumption of Hostilities

According to the Associated Press, representatives of the Afghan Taliban announced the resumption of fighting along the border following the end of the ceasefire. This resulted in two deaths and several injuries.

Pakistan declared “open war” on Afghanistan back in February, and has since been striking various targets within the country.
