Oleksandr Moroz, former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and leader of the Socialist Party, who has run for president of Ukraine five times, shared what advice he would give to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He expressed his views as part of the “DumaI” project.
Moroz emphasizes the need to change the approach to how citizens interact with the government by creating conditions under which everyone would feel responsible for the state of their community and the country. He would not call on Zelenskyy to abolish the presidency, but he would stress the need to change the approach to governing.
The politician noted that in Ukraine, the president is perceived as the top figure on whom everything depends. “Our president is the chief leader who does everything and calls the shots,” Moroz said.
In his view, such a system does not work, as leaders do not always have sufficient experience to make important decisions. Moroz recalled Zelenskyy’s words during his inauguration that “we are all presidents.” He believes this idea could evolve so that people feel responsible not only for themselves but also for their community and the state.
“For everyone to be a president, the right conditions must be created, which means taking responsibility for one’s own life, the community, and the state,” Moroz explained.
