A major political scandal has erupted in Hungary surrounding the opposition party “Tisza,” led by Péter Magyar. The government released a video of the interrogation of a 19-year-old IT specialist in an attempt to prove his ties to Ukrainian and NATO structures, as reported by Glavkom with reference to 24hu.
The young man, known by the pseudonym Gundalf, said that at the start of the war he helped Ukraine defend itself against Russian cyberattacks, but later stopped this activity because it became too “radical.”
In the video, the young man stated that he is studying to become a cybersecurity engineer at a NATO-accredited center in Estonia. In 2023, he visited Kyiv as a volunteer, where he met a man named Davydov, who offered him a spot on a cybersecurity team.
Gundalf noted that this could have been a recruitment attempt, but the man seemed “suspicious” to him. After the video was released, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that the IT specialist “confessed to being recruited by Ukrainians.” “Tisa” leader Péter Magyar called it a “dirty operation by the secret services.”
“This is an organized campaign against our party. Even from this video, it’s clear: if there were any attempts at recruitment, the young man rejected them. The government is simply distorting the facts,” Péter Magyar said.
The opposition party “Tisa” maintains a lead over Viktor Orbán’s ruling party “Fidesz” ahead of the parliamentary elections. According to polls, among voters who have already made up their minds, 53% support “Tisa,” while 39% support “Fidesz.”
