Cybercriminals are becoming increasingly resourceful thanks to artificial intelligence, and the latest concern is that they can copy your fingerprints. This is even possible using photos on social media where your hands are clearly visible.
According to RBC-Ukraine, citing Yahoo Finance, cybersecurity experts say hackers can extract your fingerprints from selfies where you’re making a peace sign or the English “V” sign, and then enhance them using artificial intelligence. They can use your unique fingerprint identifier to access your accounts or to launch identity theft and phishing attacks.

Unlike a password, which can be changed, biometric data—such as your fingerprint, face, iris, or voice—cannot be altered. But could this happen to you?
Protection against fingerprint theft
Carnegie Mellon University professor Vyas Sekhar noted: "It sounds like a plot from a spy novel or the movie 'Mission: Impossible,' but theoretically it’s possible, especially if the person holds a high-profile position and posts photos where their fingerprints are clearly visible.”
However, the criminal would also need access to a device that requires fingerprint scanning.
