Volodymyr Mishchenko, Hero of Ukraine, spoke about the successes of his unit, which has shot down 22 aircraft and two helicopters. He shared details about the work of anti-aircraft gunners in an interview with Glavkom.
Technology and Strategy
Mishchenko explained that they used portable anti-aircraft missile systems, such as the Stinger, Igla, and Strela, which are designed to engage aerial targets. “We were active from the very beginning, destroying 11 targets in Avdiivka alone,” he noted.
Confirmation of Successes
The military official said that confirmation of the downing of enemy aircraft is obtained through video footage or other evidence. He added that the actual number of targets destroyed may be higher, but not all cases can be documented.
The Pokrovsk Triangle
In 2024, the unit actively destroyed Russian aircraft in the Pokrovsk direction. “The area was called the Pokrovsk Triangle because the enemies simply vanished there,” said Mishchenko.
He emphasized that the anti-aircraft gunners’ successes were the result of systematic work, and sometimes they had to wait weeks for a successful shot.
